Week 4 – Tweeting with Twitter & Tweetdeck

Despite having a twitter account, I only used it to monitor world & national news, my sports teams, entertainment news and local community news.  I opened twitter maybe one or twice during the week and occasionally retweeted when it was pertinent to our school district or something my husband would have an interest.  Lately, my husband and I have been trying to put down my device or close the computer to set an example for our sons.  We are on our devices all day, whether at work or school, so it is refreshing to be tech free and charging the devices.  While I understand the need and importance for tweeting and responding to chats, it is hard to change these newly developed habits.  I am trying to tweet during the day on my breaks.  The new educational twitter accounts I am following are enlightening and a few of my Geneva teacher friends have liked my retweets.  It has expanded my local network of friends which gives me hope for one day finding a teaching position in Kane County.

I see the value of Twitter and how it can create new personal connections and link you to information leveraging a comment with a link to a full article.  The information I have read is insightful and relevant.  Outside of purchasing a book or reading a magazine or news article, Twitter does link you to content you might not otherwise have seen through traditional old school methods.  I have yet to do a Twitter chat but the few that I have viewed after they have started move very fast.  I am looking for one that I can follow when I am available.  I am looking forward to exchanging ideas with others and learning new ideas and perspectives.  I will need to ensure I am focused and without distractions so I can keep up with the pace and questions and answers.

Overall, Twitter can be a valuable tool allowing for networking with others across the world on various topics whether through tweets or chats.  One can also gain access to information through a quick tweet and link to a larger article.
